Quote for the Day

"Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away." ~ Tom Clancy

Experiment in Printing

Friday I spent most of the day finishing a Lino cut I wasn't real thrilled with. Sometimes you work on a piece and it's not turning out, so you say "what the heck..I'll just mess around with it and if I mess it up..so what!". Thats what I did with this. After printing on paper I tried printing on special see through paper I bought at "Pearl" in Chicago. Playing around I overlapped them with each being upside down from the other.
I actually like the way it turned out! I haven't glued the other see through paper on yet, because it is so poress that I'm not sure how to do it.
Any suggestions?? Please advise! I need some feedback.
Thanks

THE COLD OF WINTER IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Once again early this morning I spotted a little bird snuggled into the cold snow for what I could only assume warmth?? Also a hawk taking a rest.

The baby bird in the orange chair is my grandaughter taking a break from the cold at her favorite place"Starbucks"!

IN THE COLD OF WINTER

It is hard to get motivated when the sun does not show it's face and the elements are raging. While sipping my warm coffee in my sun room I notice the birds outside sitting on bare empty branches that were dancing wildly in the snowy north winds. A whole group of them..sitting, holding on while they were being battered and pelted from snow and wind. They remained as a group on the shrub until the lead bird flew to another shrub and they all obediently followed. They were working their way to the bird feeder for substance. These tiny delicate creatures, braving earths elements and surviving to see the spring come in and the flowers and trees bud and bloom one more time. Life is amazing!
The picture of the girl with birds is an oil we bought this past summer in Chicago by Mihail Kivachitsky.

The last of the OLD sketches!!!

O.K. This is the last of old sketches that I'll share with you. The one on the far left is a Lino-cut of Shannon..the other garden tools...If I couldn't catch my children napping then I took anything to sketch that wouldn't move!!

OLD Sketches from school daze....

O.K....I'll bear my soul.....and put some old, old sketches up. They were done when my children were small...when we lived in Memphis, Tennessee in Germantown. You'll note as I post them sporadicly that they are usually sleeping. It was the only time I could get them to be still!!! To give you an idea of time...My oldest is now 30, Rob is 25 and my youngest is 24. When I post a few of these next week I'll post some old school projects...from my life drawing class.

I must note to all artists: My drawing journal has become a visual diary of my life as a mother. When I drew them I wrote down what was going on at the time. It has become very sentimental to me. These are just a few:

QUOTE OF THE DAY

When you're going down the wrong road, you don't need motivation to speed up. You need a clear vision to turn you around.

Judith Bobbe - Photographer/Artist

There is a deep feeling of spirituality in her work that grabs me.
She is a member of the Chicago Artist Coalition.

Judith has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has shown her paintings, sculptures and photography, in Chicago and Evanston. The theme and inspiration, which runs through her work in all media, is the regenerative power of nature.

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

"What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man/woman is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he / she wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it."
~ Alexander Graham Bell

Artist In Training

This is my granddaughter Makenzie . The one I hope will be a creative soul like her grandmother and great grandmother. Santa brought her an easel with paints. She's already accomplished great pieces of art!!!

New Years Resolution; Experiment!!!

My closest friend commented that she was writing down her goals so she could work on them throughout the year and mark them off. I'm posting some of mine with you so that everyone can see if I'm working on them or not!

I am going to do more experimenting and work on re-doing my approach. I would like to re-invent myself! I started this off by doing a lino cut for my friend as we always exchange home-made gifts. Her home-made gift was a beautiful shopping bag knit from blue and orange hemp, which I love! She always does over-the-top home made gifts because I think she is secretly related to Martha Stewart!!! Anyway... the lino cut was the first I'd done in 15 years and now I'm motivated to do more experimenting.

I am downloading some pieces that I am just experimenting with. Organic shapes.
When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing, then we truly live life.
